End of Life Care

St. Joseph Living Center has a well-qualified team of nursing staff, social workers, recreation therapists and pastoral counselors who support residents receiving end-of-life care and their loved ones. We understand the challenges of electing for comfort measures in place of curative treatments, and our team will be there to assist you through this process. Our nursing staff is committed to honoring residents’ wishes and they are trained in comfort care and pain management. Our medical director was formerly associated with a Hospice agency and has extensive experience with palliative care and pain management.

We have pastoral counselors on staff seven days a week who provide end-of-life support aligning with each individual’s cultural and religious beliefs; all faiths are welcome. Pastoral care offerings include bedside communion, sacrament of the sick, rosary, clergy visits, music, “live” TV Mass, prayer, reconciliation, and family support. Pastoral Counselors also have contact with area religious leaders, should you have additional requests.

Residents and family can accept the services of our trained vigil team. Vigil team volunteers sit at bedside with end-of-life residents and offer company when their loved ones are not present.

Residents and family can also elect to receive hospice services while living at SJLC from one of our hospice partners.
